No wheel, no problem

Handbuilding is the oldest way and still the most expressive — coil, slab, and pinch, built with just your hands and time.

The methods

pinch      one lump, thumb and fingers
coil       rolled snakes, stacked and smoothed
slab       rolled sheets, cut and joined
press      molds, for repeatable forms

Why it matters

Handbuilding slows you down. The clay dries at its own speed, and you learn to work with it instead of against it.
