How it works

Three steps. No clipboard required.

/ 01

Book a shelf

Reserve kiln space in a studio near you — see open shelves, cones, and unload times before you commit.

/ 02

Log the recipe

Track your glaze recipes and clay bodies next to the test tiles that prove them.

/ 03

Fire & share

Follow the firing curve to the cone, then show the finished piece to the makers who get it.

02

Everything but the wheel

Your studio, organized.

Firing scheduler

Book shelf space across community kilns — live, with open temps and unload times.

Glaze notebook

Recipes, batch notes, and test tiles in one searchable log.

Clay bodies

Track body, cone, and shrinkage so the lid always fits.

Kiln map

Find an electric, gas, or wood kiln near you — or list your own.

Showcase

A weekly gallery of the best work fresh out of the kiln.

Makers

The potters and sculptors behind the wheel, organized by region.

04

The glaze wall

Every glaze, a test tile.

Ask any potter about the wall of test tiles in their studio and they'll point you to it — a hundred little rectangles, each one a recipe that worked or didn't. Kiln's glaze wall is that, digitized and searchable.

From the desk of Marta Ivey

Every potter I know keeps a box of secrets under the workbench.

I built kiln in a shared studio in Lisbon, with clay under my nails and a phone full of glaze recipes I'd photographed from a friend's binder. That binder was twenty years of work, and it lived in one person's memory. When she moved, it nearly went with her.

So here's the thing I keep coming back to: pottery is a practice of repetition — the same bowl, thrown a hundred times, until the wall is even. But the knowledge that makes it worth repeating is scattered across sticky notes, spiral notebooks, and half-remembered advice.

Kiln is that box, opened and shared. Your recipes, your test tiles, your firing curves — legible, searchable, and yours to export. Because a craft this old shouldn't depend on one person's handwriting.

Questions, answered.

Is kiln for beginners or pros?+
Both. Beginners get the guides and a place to log their first glazes; pros get the scheduler, the chemistry, and a community kiln map.
Do I need my own kiln?+
No. The kiln map connects you to community kilns — electric, gas, and wood — so you can fire without owning one.
What happens to my recipes?+
They're yours, always. Export them any time. We never share a private recipe without your say-so.
Can I book someone else's kiln?+
Yes — that's the point. Kiln-sharing studios list open shelves, and you reserve them the same way you'd book a table.
Is it free?+
Yes — the scheduler, glaze log, and kiln map are free during beta and stay free after launch.
Does it work on my phone?+
Yes. It's built for the studio — one thumb covered in slip, one thumb on the phone.

Your studio is already on the wheel.
