Cone is a temperature, not a guess

A cone melts at a specific heat-work, not a specific degree. Kiln keeps the chart straight so your glaze and your clay actually meet.

022–011   earthenware bisque
04–06     low-fire glaze
6          stoneware, electric
10        reduction, gas & wood
14        porcelain, industrial

Why it matters

Firing one cone off is the difference between a satin glaze and a puddle on the shelf.
